Supplements
are traditionally used to help the body function more efficiently.
There are several different types of supplement categories.
Nutrients/vitamins:
In this category we have individual vitamins such as: A, C,
B, E; as well as a grouping of individual vitamins together
called a Multiple; there are antioxidants, and minerals; all
in this group. Amino acids, which are the building blocks
of all muscle tissue and cells are also considered supplemental
nutrients. When you put all of the above together, you get
another sub-category called Meal Replacement; this is generally
a powder that you mix in water or juice to get all your nutrients
in one, easy to digest, meal replacement powder.
Herbs:
This is a specific category which includes preparations in
capsule, tablet or tincture form. These are usually leaves,
roots, food concentrates. Historically, an herb is defined
as a food.
Enzymes and digestive aids: Enzymes help the body make
use of all nutrients. There are digestive enzymes that mostly
come to the small intestine from the pancreas; digestive aids
such as HCL (Hydrochloric acid) which is manufactured in the
stomach. The liver also manufactures bile which helps emulsify
fats; this can be found in supplements. Enzymes can also provide
the body with the ability to repair itself and reduce inflammation
from various irritation sources. These are called proteolytic
enzymes also supplements.
Fibers:
There are well over 200 different types of commercially available
fiber supplements. These generally fall under two categories:
soluble and insoluble. There are varied uses for supplemental
fiber. Most typically supplemental fiber is used to help with
regular elimination. It is also utilized to increase the absorption
of all other nutrients; other claims are reducing cholesterol,
lower blood pressure and weight loss.
Formulas:
This is a category reserved for the group of any or all of
the above categories for specific purposes. An example would
be a grouping of herbs, nutrients and amino acids to enhance
clear mental function. There are hundreds of thousands of
these formulas available on the market today.
Supplements
have a synergistic quality! When used separately or together,
they have the ability to enhance the bodys own mechanism
for doing what it was designed to do. This is why we have
formulated our formulas in groupings of supplements. They
are designed to work together to provide your body with tools,
materials and energy to heal itself. Supplements do not cure
or heal, they help. The taking of supplements in no way takes
the place of medical supervision. The best approach is to
include your health care professional in your health team
for the best possible and the safest results. |
